Our Volunteer Community

VoRTCS volunteers come from all walks of life and may be students, teachers, professionals, trades people, parents, international students, grandparents or someone who’s recently moved to Brisbane.

What we have in common at VoRTCS is the belief that refugees are a valuable addition to Australian Society with the potential to contribute valuable skills, gifts and talents to our communities and deserve to feel welcomed, supported and safe upon arriving.

In 2019, we have more than 400 dedicated volunteers providing vital tutoring support to more than 125  families in the greater Brisbane area (that’s more than 650 refugee family members!). Every week we receive more referrals from organisations assisting refugee families and we aim to continue inspiring the wider community to get involved to give them a ‘hand up, and not just a hand out’.
